Truancy Counseling Program
PURPOSE: The Truancy Counseling Program provides services to truant youth in Cherokee County with the goal of providing timely and effective services to youth that are at risk of becoming chronic juvenile offenders.
PROCEDURE: The program provides truancy counseling in an individual and/or group setting for the truant and their families. School attendance is tracked and monitored closely by the truancy officer with progress being reported to the court.
FEES: A grant provided by the Juvenile Justice Authority pays for truancy tracking services and family counseling sessions. The family is responsible for a $25.00 enrollment fee.
ACCESS/REFERRAL: Youth who violate the Kansas Compulsory Attendance Laws are reported truant by their respective school to the Cherokee County Attorney’s office. Youth are placed on Informal Supervision by the court and referred to the program.
