PURPOSE: To provide family therapy in the home setting. The Home Based Family Therapist assists the family in making necessary changes to improve on the quality of the home life for children and adolescents and to increase the family’s ability to manage their children at home as an alternative to out of home placement such as foster care or inpatient hospitalization. By working within the family’s natural setting, new observations can be made about the family routine and general environment that may be inhibiting the family from changing to meet the needs of the children. Home Based services are time limited and of a more frequent nature than traditional outpatient family therapy.
PROCEDURE: When a family has been qualified as eligible and needing home based family therapy, the therapist will contact the family to schedule an appointment. Family therapy services will be provided in the family’s home. Ancillary services such as medical evaluation by Family Life Center, Inc.’s psychiatrist will be offered in Family Life Center, Inc.’s Riverton and Columbus offices.
FEES: $110.00 per hour. Medicaid reimburses this service or SRS may contract with Family Life Center, Inc. to cover the cost of this service to families in Cherokee County. Otherwise, fees are adjustable based on a sliding fee scale according to income and number of dependents living in the home.
ACCESS/REFERRAL: A clinician may initiate this service for a family that has identified problems with management of a child or an adolescent and traditional outpatient services have proven to be ineffective. SRS can request this service for families they know have difficult to manage children or adolescents that are at risk for removal from the home or at risk of inpatient hospitalization.
